I was sixteen by only a few weeks. It was now early August, summertime at its full. The new school year was yet to begin, and there was still time left to be lazy, free, and full of imaginations and dreams. The newspaper yesterday said a Republican Party leaders’ conference* at the Hotel Hershey would adjourn today. Former President Eisenhower was there, and current presidential candidate Barry Goldwater. The nearby-ness of these famous persons lured me to think, “What if I could see them?” Hotel Hershey was only four miles from home. The farmland roads that went there were lightly traveled, and there was a family bicycle at hand. …
